A major milestone has been achieved!
Today I visited Norfolk for the first time in nearly a year. I was pleased to see the boiler stood the right way up for the first time since it left in October 2018.
The object of today was the final internal inspection and sign-off by Peter Hawkins, our boiler inspector, prior to the fitting of the front tube plate. Apart from a few minor snags, which NNR Engineering need to rectify, this stage of the work has been signed off and they can progress to the next part of the reassembly.
This week I have also placed the order for the boiler tubes which are due for delivery in 2-3 weeks and installation in mid-September all being well. Off the back of today’s visit I have verbally instructed NNR to finish the boiler to allow final testing to commence in late September/October.
The end is in sight!
Whilst up in Norfolk we had the usual tour of the workshops and a chance to have a look at Sir Keith Park’s replacement boiler. The work being undertaken is impressive and very thorough and on course for completion in the Spring.
