RE- WHEELING DRAWS CLOSER

Work has been focused on getting everything ready to re-wheel the loco. Over the last few weeks the axle boxes have been assembled on the axles and the springs readied for fitting. The latter cannot be fitted until the frames are on the jacks and the horn stays fitted.

There’s no photo, but the rear buffers have been fitted along with the hook, so that once the engine is back on it‘s wheels, it can be readily moved.

So when will the re-wheeling take place? Well I’m pleased to say we hope to bring you this exciting news in the next couple

of weeks. The plans are going through final checks. The team have done a tremendous job to clear the shed up ready for one of the biggest re-organisations we have done for a number of years.

Other works have seen some of the other components white-metalled for machining. The photo shows the intermediate valve spindle guide whilst the metal cools. Once cool the mould will be removed and then it can be machined. Photo L. Treveil
